Overview

Overview

The Creative Educators Program (CEP) provides opportunities for young professionals in the arts and education sector. Selected applicants will be required to participate in multiple training sessions that will focus on various educational philosophies, classroom pedagogies and practices, and project coordination and implementation. Participants will also learn how to lead and facilitate Book Bus programs and workshops.

Young professionals seeking a learning environment that challenges them to understand the complexity of the problems Nepal faces should apply. The U.S. Embassy's Book Bus enrolls 16-20 participants as part of the program. Participants selected for the program will travel with the Book Bus as instructors and educators facilitating our workshops in different communities and schools.

If you are selected to be a part of the Creative Educators Program 2023, you will be expected to engage with us from January 2023 to September 2023. The training component will be held in-person and is free of charge. Educators who complete the training and work with us as instructors and educators will be remunerated for their time.

What are the three levels of CEP instructors?

The three levels CEP participants go through are:

Trainee

Who are the trainers that will be teaching us educational pedagogy?

We have an amazing lineup of trainers eager to meet the creative educators. They are:

Pranab Man Singh and Suvani Singh are the directors of the entire Book Bus program. They will let you in on the ropes of critical thinking and educational pedagogy.

Yukta Bajracharya is a spoken word poet, educator, and one of the founding members of Word Warriors, a youth-led spoken word poetry collective in Kathmandu, Nepal. She has performed poetry, facilitated spoken word poetry workshops, and organized poetry slams and events for youth all over Nepal. She is a graduate of Erasmus Mundus Master’s in Children’s Literature, Media, and Culture. She is currently the Head of Programming for the Satori Center for the Arts.

Dr. Amina Singh is an independent researcher working in the education field. She is an adjunct faculty at Kathmandu University School of Management. She will introduce different philosophies of education and help you reflect on your own experiences.

Ujjwala Maharjan is an educator and a poet. She recently completed her Master's in the International Educational Development Program at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was a UNESCO Fellow investigating art and expression-based tools to assist literacy projects. Together you will explore different educational pedagogies as well as that magical thing that often occurs inside a classroom learning.

Dr. Prathama Raghavan works in the psychosocial well-being and mental health sector for children, adolescents, adults, and families. She is working with parents and teachers on developmental disabilities (Autism spectrum, and learning, intellectual and psychosocial disabilities) and needs for gender-sensitive sexuality education. She believes in inclusive education strategies, bullying prevention, and response policies for schools with the intention of creating classrooms and schools as safe spaces for students. She will prep you on what safe spaces inside a classroom can look like.

Manantuna Jyapoo is an aspiring artist and an art educator. She recently completed a diploma in narrative practices from Narrative Practices India. She is a Social Work graduate from St. Xavier’s College and has completed a year-long credit course in Fine Arts at Kathmandu University. In between the workshops and training, there might be some work at QC such as book sorting and labeling, which you will be remunerated for.
