Media Literacy and Writing Workshop
In today’s world, what we know is dependent on us being able to separate misinformation and disinformation from reliable and credible sources. But, in the age of information - how do we do this? Our Media Literacy and Writing program is designed to help us become better at filtering information and creating content that is reliable.
What we do
We run workshops and discussions on the current media landscape that help our participants approach and evaluate the information they come across with a critical eye and encourage them to become voices of reason within their community. We also introduce participants to the publishing process and help publish the content that they produce on various online platforms.
Learning Outcomes
The Media Literacy and Writing program helps participants understand and critically evaluate the vast range of information and content they are exposed to on a daily basis. It helps them navigate the ever present world of social media and enables them to tell their own stories on these platforms. Participants learn how to write clearly and concisely and translate their message into the various media formats and mediums available to them.
Activities
Our Media Literacy and Writing program is centered around a set of intensive workshops. Each workshop set includes five sessions spread over two weeks in which participants will learn to parse and analyze information and information sources, and also learn how to reach and write on a specific topic. Each session is two to three hours long, but are designed to be interactive and engaging for the participants. By the end of the workshop, participants normally are able to produce a story in a medium of their choice some of which we help publish on various platforms.
