Write to Speak
Write to Speak was a campaign run by the Word Warriors, a spoken word poetry group, to introduce performance poetry to youth from diverse communities.With a special focus on young women and marginalized communities in Nepal, the campaign will gave the youth an opportunity to speak out and be heard.
What we do
Write to Speak was a campaign by the Word Warriors that built public platforms for marginalized youth to use spoken word poetry to speak out and be heard.
Activities
During the course of Write to Speak, the Word Warriors worked with youth from marginalized communities to build their confidence, encourage creative expression and bring out their stories through the medium of spoken word poetry with intensive workshops, performances, and formations of youth-led poetry groups.
Learning Outcomes
Since 2014, Write to Speak introduced spoken word poetry to youth in seven cities around Nepal: Pokhara, Birgunj, Dharan, Banepa, Dhangadhi, Surkhet and Bharatpur. Youth collectives around the poetry and art have been successfully setup in most of them allowing them to come together and freely express and learn through the arts.
