In a wonderfully warm and open hour-long conversation, Byanjana Thapa and our host Prateebha Tuladhar touched on the writing impulse, forms of written expression, and the courage to put creative work out into the world. For Byanjana, the impulse to express herself arrives as an emotion.“My relationship with poetry was when there was this cute emotion that could come knocking, and it could come at any time. It could be three in the morning,” she said. She sometimes just writes for herself, giving some of her feelings a space in her inner world, but Byanjana shares her writing with the outer world as well, and has worked with writers and teachers in the process. While she was working at The Kathmandu Post, Byanjana met a lot of people involved in literary  communities in Kathmandu, including the spoken word poetry group, the Word Warriors. This exposure emboldened her to put her work out there without it having to be perfect, knowing that people will still appreciate the spirit of it. Through her thoughts we all can get a sense that it’s all about the inner voice that wants to come out. Byanjana has beautifully shared her journey, thoughts and experience in writing and her profession on Sunday Sessions with Prateebha.
